I would love if every patient I met could get pregnant without doing a single fertility treatment in my office. That sounds funny I know. But it’s true. My goal in taking care of my patients is to help them understand the factors affecting their ability to conceive as much as possible so that they can do what they can at home to improve their chances of getting pregnant so that when the time comes to use my help – maybe it’s not even needed!
Patients sometimes worry that if they get pregnant without my help somehow they will be at higher risk of having an abnormal pregnancy. That’s not true at all.
One of the things I recommend to my patients is to do what they can to understand their menstrual cycle.
Know when you’re most fertile and be intimate during that time. There are a number of online resources that will teach you how to do fertility charting. There are also applications for your phone that you can download that will also help you.
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ is a website that will teach you about fertility charting and will help you do it. Very easy to follow.
If you go to this link: http://contraception.about.com/od/naturalmethods/tp/fertility_apps.htm you will find a list of 7 apps that you can download onto your phone that will also help you pinpoint your fertile window.
Charting your fertility is one of the first things you can do when trying to conceive. This may increase your chances of getting pregnant and if you find that you may not be ovulating, you may learn early on that you should meet with your ObGyn or your local fertility specialist about why you may not be ovulating regularly.
Hope this helps!
